COVID-19 Activism and Op-Eds
Op-eds in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and a #ShutdownGA petition that gathered 80,000+ signatures in two weeks, advocating for early pandemic response measures in Georgia.
During the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I wrote two op-eds published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and organized a grassroots campaign in my home state of Georgia.
Op-Eds
-
Opinion: Shut Ga. down now to save lives, economy (with Akshat Pujara and Mike Callahan) — Published shortly before Georgia's April 1st shutdown. I compared Georgia's trajectory to Italy's and made the case that economic and healthcare interests were aligned.
-
Opinion: Wearing masks must become mandatory — Written in mid-May and published in July as cases surged. Two weeks after publication, Governor Kemp sued Atlanta Mayor Bottoms to overturn her city-wide mask mandate.
#ShutdownGA Petition
I created a Change.org petition calling on Governor Kemp to shut down Georgia, which gathered 80,000+ signatures in two weeks. I sent it to my governor and federal representatives, performed Georgia-specific hospital capacity analysis, and emailed it to over 200 state legislators and city mayors. I also built a coordination website for volunteers.
